“People play with McLuhan’s ‘ideas’ however it suits them. Eventually, they might get curious about the man himself. There are many books and much footage that serve up a useful but inevitably distorted interpretation of MM.
Therefore, the most accurate window/microphone closeup of MM himself is the studio recordings of MM at work/play with his colleagues, made by Tony Schwartz. I doubt there is an equal amount of surveillance of any other 20th Century genius. It’s a remarkable and a one-of-a-kind archive … and the only way to experience Marshall McLuhan HIMSELF!
I am the only person who liberated these recordings (about 100 hours) from the Library of Congress at considerable legal risk and expense. And I gave it to the world for free. Top that or praise me!!
My notes are extremely useful, too.
The rest of you ‘scholars’ are merely visiting.”
